Facts about End-of Life Choices:

  • The deceased may remain at the home for the wake, showing, vigil or funeral. With the proper documents, you do not need a funeral director to file for a death certificate, disposition of body and body transport. Embalming is a choice, not a law.
  • Caskets may be purchased for as little as $75 for a biodegradable cardoard casket. You may also use a home-made or artisan-crafted casket.
  • Concrete vaults are used to keep the landscaping in the cemetery level; use of them are not state law. Of course it may be a requirement of the cemetery.
  • You may be able to be buried on your property; it is up to the particular zoning of your state/county/city.
  • An Ohio death record may be established without assistance from a funeral home or funeral director.
